THE
National Association of Nigerian Students,NANS, with its Oyo State chapter
(Joint Campus Committee, Oyo-axis) has enjoined FAN MILK PLC to stop the sales
of all its products in all campuses across the country due to the environmental
pollution being caused by the company and its resultant severe health threat to
the students of the Federal Cooperative College, Ibadan.
In a statement signed by Comrades Salawu
Tirimisiu Lekan and Ismail Taiwo, Vice Chairman and Public Relation Officer
(P.R.O) NANS\JCC, Oyo State respectively, the body said, “The almost
50-years-old company has been discharging environmental hazardous waste to the
stream which passed through the Federal Cooperative College, Ibadan towards
Benjamin Street of Eleyele.”
Speaking to DailyPost correspondent,
Comrade Salawu said, the association will be mobilising 1000 students to
protest at the company’s gate on Tuesday.
He added that the students’ body had
tried many times, without any response from FAN MILK PLC, to compel them to
have a modern waste disposal.
He emphasised that if their protest does
not yield any good result on Tuesday, the body would be forced to stop the
distribution and sales of FAN MILK PLC products in all campuses across the
country.

Arising from the environmental pollution
being caused by FAN MILK PLC and its resultant severe health threat to the
students of Federal Cooperative College, Ibadan, the umbrella body of the
entire students in Oyo State NANS/JCC, Oyo State Axis has resolved to embark on
serious campaign aimed at stop the sales of all FAN MILK products in all
campuses across the country.
It should be noted that for almost fifty
years now FAN MILK PLC has been discharging an environmental hazardous waste to
the stream which passed through Federal Cooperative College, Ibadan towards
Benjamin Street of Eleyele.
The Students Union of the institution has
also tried for many years to bring an end to this bad odour which has
responsible for various outbreak of diseases on the campus ranging from typhoid
to hepatitis but all their efforts are always being scuttled by this
environmental unfriendly company.
To our best understanding, a company as
buoyant as FAN MILK should be able to cater for an appropriate waste disposal
while discharging their Corporate Social Responsibility from time to time but
the reverse is the case. The company has been using divide and rule tactics as
well as security personnel to threat the students whenever they were asked to
clean-up their environmental mess.
We hereby call on FAN MILK to respect the
popular wish of students by start the building of a covered tunnel as politely
requested by the Students Union of the institution that will be transporting
the waste out of Federal Cooperative College in a bid to reduce the presumed
poisonous odour.
Should FAN MILK fail to meet the deadline
of the students as stipulated; NANS has concluded plan to stage a 1000 students
mass warning protest at FAN MILK premises on Tuesday, 11th June, 2013 and after
which we would begin a mass campaign against the company products in all
campuses across Nigeria. FAN MILK cannot continue making life difficult for
students of Federal Cooperative College, Ibadan and still be expecting sales on
Nigeria campuses.
Long live NANS!
Long live Oyo State!
Long live Federal Republic of Nigeria!
Long live Oyo State!
Long live Federal Republic of Nigeria!
