MUST READ - Controversy Trails Lagos State Governor, Fashola's, Birthday Cake (PICTURE)

The governor of Lagos state, Fashola, celebrated his 50th birthday few days ago. The likes of Bola Tinubu, Rotimi Amaechi and other dignitaries were in attendance. From the picture above, the cakes looks like an advert for a foreign football club, Manchester United.
Many Nigerians were angered with this development. They expected Fashola to showcase the Nigerian football clubs or even the 'super eagles' as a governor.  The angry Nigerians felt the need for Fashola to showcase Nigerian talents instead of Manchester united footballers. They were very mad at this cake and said no foreign governor would ever make a Nigerian football club cake for his birthday. They also associated this with the reason why our leaders in Nigeria are quick to sending their children abroad for holidays and studies.

"This is because they have failed to make Nigeria a better place. They embezzle the money, then send their children abroad for better life, while the masses suffer. As we speak now, Lecturers nation wide are on strike", said one of the commenters in a Nigerian blog.

Another said "leave our yeye leaders, mtsheew, If Nelson Mandela were a Nigerian he would have been in a foreign hospital by now, because he would have embezzled all the money for building a standard hospital in Nigeria".

Another,  "No wonder we import more than 90% of everything we have in Nigeria, even frozen food. I'm sure this cake was imported from London for Fashola's birthday".

Here is another comment, "He shudn't even be watching foreign channels, governors must be forced to use only locally made products, if he likes Manchester, then he should develop one of  these local Nigerian football clubs to be like Manchester United. If i'm the president eh, no governor will have generator, DSTV, fly abroad for treatment, allow their children study abroad etc, bcos of all these enjoyment they dont know what the poor people face"

"But i think the three cakes were a bit too much for a public official in a country where our fellow country men are suffering. It's kinda elitist and out of touch".

Some were of the opinion, "it is his birthday and he has the right to pick whatever design of cake he wants, whether or not he is a governor"

"I love Fashola but I'm really disappointed at this anomaly at his 50th birthday. Hear this! Governor Fashola, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and Governor Rotimi Amaechi, the management of Manchester United does not even know you guys exit, so please stop deluding yourselves and get on with the business of empowering your people and country. These Nigerian dealers (not leaders) must be jesters fit only for the circus. What a shame!"

“Rubbish, posing with a cake decorated with man u logo. Dont know y we dont celebrate our stuffs. u all saying he gat his private life to live r getting it wrong, if he enjoys living a private life, he should be able to use the exist door, and not spend public funds because his 1st love is manU. Totaly a shame on his path.”

"Haba, what if the cake was a gift, i don't think he requested for this cake design, even if he did, its nobody's business the cake design he chooses. I'm sure these jealousy people are Chelsea fans. It is his PRIVATE birthday, not lagos state birthday. #badbellenigerians.",says a supporter of the cake.

"for a leader, truly it's quite bafflin...woulda felt much better wit d national colors or even d lagos state's or logo...but its all gud!"

Some Nigerians expected him to be a patriotic governor by having a cake designed like this:

  1. Its no one's business if he uses anything to decorate his cake. Its Fashola's birthday not Lagos anniversary. He is a man with passion and that passion happens to be Manchester United Football club. He has right like everyother Nigerian to celebrate his birthday anyhow. Thank God the news is not that he spent state fund to do rubbish party. Lets leave this man alone.

  4. Gentlemen, as a governor, he is no longer a private citizen. He needs to know that EVERYTHING he does has to represent Lagos state and Nigeria. He can have this cake at home, no one is stopping him, but in the office, he needs to PROJECT Nigeria. The reason why the government treats Nigerians like second class citizens is because we DONT demand more and let them get away with everything little and big. Hoever, when a few call them out, instead of others to support them do, those that don't know better, try to shout them up.
